Hi Peter, if you are testing individuals with an already high VO2max, this could be a group in terms of all-cause mortality, as this group has survived has survived risks of training. For example, there are a lot of accidents when you do a lot of outdoor cycling. So more training is better, but maybe the risk of training injuries cause a J-curve. You could test the effect by comparing a type of indoor training with low risk with an outdoor training training with high risk.

Another angle of formulating this wise advice, is that it is absolutely crucial that people find such sport activities which they do not HATE, and if possible, such which make them feel good and anxious to repeat them again and again. I think it would be totally impossible for me to actually FORCE myself to sport. The only reason why I'm in decent shape is that if I miss a few workouts I feel genuinely BAD and WANTING to make up for it asap

I started rucking about 3 months ago, starting with 15lbs in my hiking backpack and going anywhere from 3 to 7 miles over rough and hilly terrain. I'm utterly grateful there's a park literally 3 miles from me with some great hiking trails. Now, I'm up to 45-50lbs. Wears me out. But, dang, it feels great.

I’m halfway through, and while I think it’s all good info, if you really were attempting to “simplify” the information and avoid charts and numbers, so far you’re off target. I’m not trying to be critical, it’s just I still struggle to understand what you’re saying. You’re really next level. But I’m still here and still trying. I’ve read Peter’s book, and follow and listen to a LOT of health podcast, so it’s not simply that I’m not we’ll versed. Rather, this is an Uber technical listen, and I can only assume you believe you’re not speaking to the average layman, or not thin Peter. 😉

You can train to be strong in a valgus collapse position. Why wouldn't it be trainable? You should train to be strong in all common positions. It's the same with lifting with a rounded back. There's a lot of dogma around keeping the back straight or arched. But then you see athletes who've trained themselves to be able to handle large loads in a rounded back position. If you start light and progressively overload it, your tissues will adapt to the heavier load. I've deadlifted 200 kg. My back was not straight.

Your asking Derek for medical advice like he’s a doctor when Derek is just a steroid user that learned how to google search NIH studies and became familiar with the medical terminology in the late 2000s… He was big on the forums back in the late 2000s… back the. It was like a competition on the forums to see who knew the lost and who was the most familiar with studies. there’s a million self proclaimed scientists out there, people Derek’s age and my age had the advantage of open online forums, and I know heroin addicts from blue light more knowledgeable than him. It’s crazy he got so famous just from knowing how to use the NIH search engine, and saying big words so people thought he was a genius. He uses unnecessary big words to seem intelligent. When a simplified version would be less stupid. It’s crazy your getting medical advice from him when he’s just a typical drug user. Even Joe Rohan thought he was a chemist, just because the way Derek spoke. Desperately trying to look like he’s more than an average drug user . He’s the perfect example of fake it untill you make it.

So true. I got injured after 6 months of intense exercise. All the weight I lost and improved physical condition meant nothing cuz I was in chronic lower back pain and sciatica for years after that. It took me a long time to get back to exercising, because I had to go at it from a safety and pain perspective.

So true. I had not exercised for some years and at Aug 21 last year I had decided that I need to start to exercise again. I had started to walk a lap around my quite country town which is at about 1.5km. I could remember how poor my condition was initially. I had to sit down at a park bench just outside a church after about 1km worth of walking. I had then incorporated 20 pushups per day too. I will now also be introducing a 5kg ruck for my walks too,

Good thoughts. I have been training for over 20 years. It can be good to do both. Some people are very neuromuscular challenged and a step back lunge can be very hard for them and it can take a while to see progress. The learning curve for basic strength moves can be easier and results tend to be felt almost immediately. So, yes, some of both.

I love you Peter, but so often find you talking about yourself or well-trained athletes like yourself... finally, here, your talking about other folks - like me... but even here, you're talking about putting 20 lbs of weight on someone just starting to ruck (BACKPACK for the older crowd ;) )... NO PETER, 20 lbs is not something you should be recommending to those outside of your elite athlete world... Many people need to start out much lighter - and those with spine issues (which so many people over the age of 50 have) should use caution with too much weight. Starting with 1-2 pounds - maybe 5 for a lot of people - is great - then graduating slowly to higher, as you would any other weight training regimen. PLEASE TRY and be MORE RELATABLE to us everyday folks when you can - I love your message, but always feel like you're talking to people like yourself: super well trained. :)
